Rejoice and Praise

Reflections on faith, hope, and the quiet journey with Christ

Sometimes a song finds its way back to something deeper within us.

This version of After the Rain (Summer’s Wispy Grace) feels, for me, like a small return to my roots. The music carries the gentle sounds of traditional Chinese-inspired instrumentation, particularly the haunting beauty of the erhu, while the imagery draws upon the softness and spaciousness of Chinese watercolour and ink painting.

There is something about ink and water that has always fascinated me. We can guide the brush, but we cannot completely control where the water carries the pigment. It spreads, softens, mingles and sometimes creates something we never intended.

Perhaps grace can be a little like that.

We move through life believing we know where the lines should fall, only to discover that some of the most beautiful things emerge when we loosen our grip and allow ourselves to be led.

After the rain, the landscape is never quite the same.Neither are we.

And perhaps somewhere between the rain and the light, we discover that grace was already at work.
