Something I’ve been quietly working on is almost here.
On Friday, October 9, a new song arrives — Yahweh Shalom. I’ve always loved the ancient name Yahweh for God — the name He gave Moses from the burning bush, a name too holy to be spoken aloud. It carries a weight and tenderness that English translations can only hint at.
So I wrote a song in praise and adoration to God using that ancient name — and the names of His nearness woven through Scripture:
- Yahweh-Jireh — my Provider
- Yahweh-Rapha — my Healer
- Yahweh-Nissi — the Lord my Banner
- Yahweh-M’Kaddesh — the One who makes me holy
- Yahweh-Shalom — the Lord is Peace
- Yahweh-Rohi — my Shepherd
- Yahweh-Tsidkenu — the Lord our Righteousness
- Yahweh-Shammah — the Lord is There
- El Shaddai — God Almighty
- Yahweh Elohim — Lord God
Each name is a doorway into who He is. Each verse of the song is a step through one of them.
The song was written as a prayer — a song of adoration and thankfulness. It begins where all prayer begins:
My God…
O my God…
I call upon Your holy Name.
And it ends where all prayer ends — in rest:
Yahweh-Shalom…
You are my peace.
Still my heart.
Rest my soul.
Remain with me
through the quiet of the night.
I hope it becomes a prayer for you too — that in a world of disarray, you find the One who was, and who is, and who is to come, and hear Him speak peace over your restless heart.
Yahweh Shalom — The Lyrics
[Intro]
My God…
O my God…
I call upon Your holy Name.
Sovereign Lord,
You reign over my life.
My soul is filled with wonder
in the presence of who You are.
I lift my voice
and call to You—
my God,
O my God.
[Verse 2 — Provider, Healer, Refuge]
Yahweh-Jireh…
my Provider.
You open Your hand,
and every need finds rest in You.
Yahweh-Rapha…
my Healer.
Rest Your healing hand upon me;
bind the broken places
with Your gentle grace.
Yahweh-Nissi…
the Lord my Banner.
Lifted high above the noise,
You are my shield,
my refuge,
my strength
in a world of disarray.
[Pre-Chorus — Holiness and Peace]
Yahweh-M’Kaddesh…
You who make me holy.
Purify what clings to my heart;
shape me more and more
into Your likeness.
Yahweh-Shalom…
the Lord is Peace.
Still the storm within me.
Quiet my restless heart.
Let me rest in You.
[Chorus — Shepherd and Righteousness]
Yahweh-Rohi…
my Shepherd.
Lead me beside still waters;
restore my weary soul.
I shall not want,
for You are with me.
You lead me,
You carry me,
You are enough.
Yahweh-Tsidkenu…
the Lord our Righteousness.
Clothe me in Your mercy;
cover me in Your light.
[Verse 3 — Presence and Strength]
Yahweh-Shammah…
the Lord is There.
Never absent.
Never distant.
Faithful through every darkness,
present through every dawn.
El Shaddai…
God Almighty.
Your strength upholds me.
Your compassion surrounds me.
Your faithfulness
endures forever.
[Bridge — The Eternal God]
Yahweh Elohim…
Lord God.
You are the One
who was,
and who is,
and who is to come.
Holy and eternal,
unchanging and true—
You are God.
And I am Yours.
I am Yours.
[Final Chorus / Outro]
My God…
O my God…
I call upon Your holy Name,
and I find You near.
Yahweh-Shalom…
You are my peace.
Still my heart.
Rest my soul.
Remain with me
through the quiet of the night.
For You alone
are worthy of all praise—
now
and forever.
Amen.
