Rejoice and Praise

Reflections on faith, hope, and the quiet journey with Christ

Some prayers we have said so often that the words can pass by quickly. The Lord’s Prayer is one of them.

“Bread of Our Need (Aramaic)” is the prayer Jesus taught us, sung in Aramaic — the language He Himself spoke. Hearing it in those ancient sounds has a way of slowing the heart down and letting the words land again: give us this day our bread of need.

The song was released on September 30, and today the Meditative Version is also out — a slower, quieter setting made for unhurried listening and prayer.

I’ve made a short video to pray along with. I invite you to pray it with me.

May this prayer meet you in whatever need you carry today. 🙏

The Prayer, Line by Line

The words of the prayer as sung in the video — Aramaic, with the English beneath each line.

Abwoon d’bashmaya
Our Father in heaven

Nethqadash shmakh
Hallowed be Your name

Teytey malkuthakh
Your kingdom come

Nehwey sebyanakh aykanna d’bashmaya aph b’arha
Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven

Habw lan lachma d’sunqanan yaomana
Give us today our daily bread

Washbuq lan haubey wahteyn aykanna daph hnan shbwoqan l’hayabiyn
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors

Wela taalan l’nesyuna
And lead us not into temptation

Ela patzan min bisha
But deliver us from evil

Rendered from the Aramaic of the Syriac tradition — the ancient sounds of the prayer Jesus taught us.
