As I head into 2025, I have been taking the time to finish reading and reflecting on the Wisdom of Solomon. It is a meaningful book for me especially as it mirrors our time when secular and politically correct agendas govern the way we communicate and interact with one another, with nations, and even within the church.
Today we see chaos social theories creating schism, division, subjectivity, grey truths, and hatred.
We are so afraid of offending the other that oftentimes God’s truth gets distorted and diluted.
I often tell my children we live in a matrix where much of what we believe in, what our perceptions are, our views and understanding have been idolized, distorted, manipulated, and subjectively high jacked by social media where we only gets shades of truth.
We forget that as Christians we have been brainwashed to believe we need help fight the good fight for Israel. We forget that the Middle East is also home to Christians and Catholics too. When we support Christian Zionist ideology we are literally destroying the land Jesus grew up in and preached. The early church sprang from the areas now being bombarded in an Israeli land grab. Many early Christian churches and sites are being destroyed.
I ask as we move into 2025, we take the time to reflect and look more deeply into understanding our walk with Jesus, our faith, and what it means to be a Catholic. To ask for our veils to be lifted so that we can see clearly, discern, think critically, and ask how, what and why we are here at this point in time – in the midst of terrible and escalating conflicts in the Middle East.
Above all let us remember what Christmas really means. We have brothers and sisters in Jesus living in Syria, Lebanon and other countries in the area. We need also look deeply at what and who we support, and ask yourselves if it is in alignment with the teaching of Jesus.
Let us pray for world peace. Let us not fall victims into the power and spiritual war that is now being played out overtly in real time.
