In the beginning, You breathed into me the divine spark—
Created by You and for You.
“Then the LORD God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life” (Genesis 2:7).
Your breath awakened this mortal vessel,
Clay stirred into glory,
Dust illumined by eternity.
Into this world I am given the freedom to walk—
For You have made me in Your image (Genesis 1:27),
And crowned me with freedom, that I might love.
Yet this world is governed by those
Whose spark has been cloaked in shadow
Or dimmed by the weight of unrepented desire.
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (John 1:5).
Many sparks wander unaware
Of the Source from which their light descends.
They move like Odysseus upon restless seas,
Longing for home yet forgetting the path.
Like the souls in a darkened wood,
Of whom Dante wrote:
“Midway upon the journey of our life
I found myself within a forest dark.”
Enslaved are we in the cavern of the material world,
Our minds chained to passing things—
Mistaking shadows for substance.
For what is seen is transient,
But what is unseen is eternal (2 Corinthians 4:18).
And yet—
You have called me to let my light shine (Matthew 5:16).
When I was a child, You showed me the flame within—
A whisper of eternity echoing in the soul.
It led me to seek Truth,
Not as an idea, but as a Person.
“I am the way and the truth and the life” (John 14:6).
Through trials and errors,
Through deserts and storms,
The spark grew brighter with each surrender.
Like Dante ascending from Inferno to Paradise,
Each suffering became a rung toward Light.
I walked through the valley of darkness unafraid,
For You guided me—
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I fear no evil; for you are with me” (Psalm 23:4).
Love and mercy are the center of this Light.
For “God is love” (1 John 4:8),
And His mercy endures forever (Psalm 136).
If this light is to burn brightly,
I must walk in truth—
Not captive to illusion,
Not enslaved to the glittering mirage of a materialist age.
For what is real is not the shifting stage of this world,
But Christ within—
“The kingdom of God is within you” (Luke 17:21).
In a world where evil abounds,
Where many call darkness light (Isaiah 5:20),
I am summoned to remember who I am:
A bearer of divine breath.
To break free of darkness
Is to trust the Light placed within me—
Not my own power,
But the grace You sustain in me.
“For God who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’
Has shone in our hearts” (2 Corinthians 4:6).
After many trials—
After the willingness to see—
The Light overcomes the darkness.
I forgive myself,
For I am forgiven (1 John 1:9).
I release shame,
For there is no condemnation in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1).
And in that mercy—
I am free.
