Reflections on faith, hope, and the quiet journey with Christ

The heavens have smiled upon me.

I cannot always say why,
except that somehow
I know God has smiled upon my life.

His healing hands rested upon me
when illness kept me still.
He gave me permission to pause,
to rest without fear,
without the weight of schedules,
or the endless list of things
I thought had to be done.

When heaven smiles upon me,
it fills my heart with peace
and quiet joy.

Sometimes that blessing comes
as a burst of inspiration.
At other times,
it is simply a prayerful heart,
overflowing with gratitude.

The Lord blesses each of us
in His own way
and in His own time.

I do not ask why.
I do not compare.
Each soul walks
its own journey with God,
each at a different pace,
yet always held
within His loving care.

So with a joyful heart,
a thankful heart,
I give thanks
for Your gentle hands upon my life.

You have taught me
to choose respect over pride,
to hold back my spiteful tongue,
that what leaves my lips
may be filled instead
with grace and love.

Patiently,
You have taught me Your ways.

You have clipped away my thorns,
not to change who I am,
but to shape me
into the person
You created me to be.

You have given me
the wisdom to remain silent
when silence is needed,
and the courage to speak
for those who are wounded,
forgotten,
or treated unjustly.

Heaven has smiled upon me.

Not because I deserve it,
but because God is good.

And for that,
today and always,
I am deeply thankful.

Why I wrote this

I wrote this during a week of illness, when my body was forced into stillness and my spirit was given space to rest. In that quiet place, away from the demands of daily life and the noise of the world, I became deeply aware of God’s gentle hand over my life.

What could have been a time of worry became instead a time of peace. I felt the Lord allowing me to pause—not in frustration, but in grace. In that stillness, gratitude began to rise in me naturally, and this poem became my way of giving voice to that thankfulness.

It is a simple reflection of what I felt in recovery: that even in weakness, God is near, and even in silence, heaven still smiles upon us.
