My rant today:
I believe in Yahweh, I believe in his son Jesus Christ, and I believe in the guidance of the Paraclete.
Words inscribed in the Bible come from the breath of God. Just as the world and all things in it was created with the word of God. His words are engraved in my heart. With each rereading, there are new insights and understanding.
It is only with the guidance of the Holy Spirit that I have grown and blossomed into the faith driven person I am today. Yes, it is a journey from thinking and seeing God from the eyes of a child to the lens of the senior I am today – older and wiser.
My life is a story of meandering from the left to the right. It is a story of seeking to draw closer to Jesus. Yes, sometimes the road was rocky, but there was always a gentle push to get me back on track. The narrow path is challenging, while the wide path was seductively full of distractions and distortions.
Today, I write and create under the mantle of the Holy Spirit – who inspires and moves me to share with my readers all things spiritually related to Jesus and his body – the Church.
The wide road is wrought with never ending discernment. Lately I have been revisiting popular music I once loved. A deeper rereading of its’ lyrics have revealed hidden meanings or images that I had ignored because of catchy tunes. The music often so well structured and strung that the hidden images and symbols in the lyrics can easier be ignored.

“Viva La Vida”
I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own
I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemy’s eyes
Listened as the crowd would sing,
“Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!”
One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand
I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringing
Roman cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can’t explain
Once you’d gone there was never
Never an honest word
And that was when I ruled the world
It was a wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People couldn’t believe what I’d become
Revolutionaries wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh who would ever want to be king?
I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringing
Roman cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can’t explain
I know St. Peter won’t call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh [5x]
Hear Jerusalem bells a-ringing
Roman cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can’t explain
I know St. Peter won’t call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world
I once loved the tune to this song. It was also once in my Apple Music downloads. Now, I question the Christian imagery of St Peter, as well as references made to Jerusalem and missionaries? What are the meaning behind the wind and storm? This calls to mind Jesus calming the storm. Who use to rule the world? Biblical symbols abound!
Are the lyrics a thin veil echoing a melancholic longing for Satan? What deeper meanings belies these lyrics?
Isaiah 14:12-17 acts as a parallel to the song “Viva La Vida”:
How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning!
how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven,
I will exalt my throne above the stars of God:
I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying,
Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;
That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof;
that opened not the house of his prisoners?

I Write the Songs
I’ve been alive forever
And I wrote the very first song
I put the words and the melodies together
I am music, and I write the songs
I write the songs that make the whole world sing
I write the songs of love and special things
I write the songs that make the young girls cry
I write the songs, I write the songs
My home lies deep within you
And I’ve got my own place in your soul
Now when I look out through your eyes
I’m young again, even though I’m very old
I write the songs that make the whole world sing
I write the songs of love and special things
I write the songs that make the young girls cry
I write the songs, I write the songs
Oh, my music makes you dance
And gives your spirit to take a chance
And I wrote some rock ‘n’ roll, so you can move
Music fills your heart, well, that’s a real fine place to start
It’s from me, it’s for you
It’s from you, it’s from me
It’s a worldwide symphony
I write the songs that make the whole world sing
I write the songs of love and special things
I write the songs that make the young girls cry
I write the songs, I write the songs
I write the songs that make the whole world sing
I write the songs of love and special things
I write the songs that make the young girls cry
I write the songs, I write the songs
I am music (music), and I write the songs…
Reading these lyrics now, I realize it’s a song about Satan. After all, Lucifer was the angel of music before his fall. What are your views?
I can never listen to popular music again without questioning its content. Please beware of being mislead by Lucifer – the great deceiver.
Pray for protection for our children to discern and see beyond the music.
God Bless 💕🙏
