I share today’s morning prayer from the Magnificat – A much needed prayer for our religious and clergy.
FRIDAY, JANUARY 24
Saint Francis de Sales
Prayer for the Morning
Come, let us praise the Lord our God!
Glory to the Father…. Alleluia!
HymnMeter: LM
This hymn can be sung to the tune used for
The Glory of These Forty Days
While honoring your festal day,
O brother kind, to you we pray
That our lives also may abound
In deeds of holy love profound.
You loved the poor, yourself in need;
To those in woe your soul gave heed.
Unyielding to the willful blind,
To lowly men you were most kind.
May we, like you, be clean of heart!
To us God’s own true light impart!
Assist us in our every need;
A brother be to us indeed!
Psalm 15
When he is dealing with the arrogant, he is stern,/ but to the humble he shows kindness. (Prv 3:34)
Saint Francis de Sales was a man of single-hearted zeal and gentle wisdom who directed many people to find God in forms of devotion suited to their own circumstances. The Church continues to reap the benefits of the good he sowed through his writings.
Lord, who shall be admitted to your tent
and dwell on your holy mountain?
He who walks without fault;
he who acts with justice
and speaks the truth from his heart;
he who does not slander with his tongue;
he who does no wrong to his brother,
who casts no slur on his neighbor,
who holds the godless in disdain,
but honors those who fear the Lord;
he who keeps his pledge, come what may;
who takes no interest on a loan
and accepts no bribes against the innocent.
Such a man will stand firm for ever.
Glory to the Father….
Word of GodMatthew 11:28-30
Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.
Blessed are the peacemakers,/
for they will be called children of God. (Mt 5:9)
Canticle of Zechariah
Thus do I pour out instruction like prophecy/ and bestow it on generations to come. (Sir 24:31)
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;
he has come to his people and set them free.
He has raised up for us a mighty savior,
born of the house of his servant David.
Through his holy prophets he promised of old
that he would save us from our enemies,
from the hands of all who hate us.
He promised to show mercy to our fathers
and to remember his holy covenant.
This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham:
to set us free from the hands of our enemies,
free to worship him without fear,
holy and righteous in his sight
all the days of our life.
You, my child, shall be called the prophet
of the Most High;
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,
to give his people knowledge of salvation
by the forgiveness of their sins.
In the tender compassion of our God
the dawn from on high shall break upon us,
to shine on those who dwell in darkness
and the shadow of death,
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Glory to the Father…
Intercessions
Through the intercession of Saint Francis de Sales, let us pray for the Church to which he devoted his life:
R/Renew us in your love!
For all bishops and pastors:
– grant them the gifts of discernment and charity in all their decisions. R/
For all spiritual directors:
– grant them the insight to put their wisdom at the service of true Christian life. R/
For all religious communities that draw their inspiration from Saint Francis de Sales:
– grant them a fervent life of prayer and good works for the sake of your kingdom. R/
Personal intentions
Our Father….
O God of justice and of mercy, you guided Saint Francis de Sales in promoting the full life of the Church in times of uncertainty and controversy. Through his intercession, continue to renew the Church today to seek the peace of your kingdom for all people, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Magnificat is another great devotional and resource for Catholics. It has the daily Mass Lectionary and prayers for morning, evening and night as well as a reflection. I often use this along with my personal daily prayers to start and close my day.
God Bless and I prayer for the unification of all Catholics. 🙏💕
