How This Prayer Came to Be
It began with a simple search for the ancient words God gave Moses to place on Aaron and his sons — the blessing we know as Aaron’s Blessing.
From there I found myself lingering with the names of God: Yahweh-Jireh, Yahweh-Rapha, Yahweh-Shalom, and the others that reveal His heart. As I sat with each name, a quiet prayer began to form — not planned, but received.
What emerged is this poem. It is simply a personal calling upon the One who is Provider, Healer, Banner, Shepherd, and Peace. A small offering of praise from a heart that still needs Him.
May it become a prayer for you as well.
A Prayer
My God, O my God,
I call upon Your holy Name.
Sovereign Lord,
You reign over my life.
My soul is filled with wonder:
I AM WHO I AM.
I lift my voice
and cry out to You.
Yahweh-Jireh—
my Provider.
You open Your hand,
and every need
finds its rest in You.
Yahweh-Rapha—
my Healer.
Your healing hands rest upon me,
binding the broken places
with quiet and living power.
Yahweh-Nissi—
the Lord my Banner.
Lifted high above me,
You are my shield,
my refuge,
and my victory
in a world of disarray.
Yahweh-M’Kaddesh—
the Lord who sanctifies.
Make me holy.
Purify what still clings to my heart,
and shape me into Your likeness.
Yahweh-Shalom—
You are Peace itself,
stilling the storm within me
and calming the world around me.
Yahweh-Rohi—
the Lord my Shepherd.
You lead me beside still waters;
I shall not want,
for You are always enough.
Yahweh-Tsidkenu—
the Lord my Righteousness.
Clothe me with Your mercy,
and cover me
with the garment of Your light.
Yahweh-Shammah—
the Lord is There.
Never absent,
never distant,
always faithful.
El Shaddai—
God Almighty.
Your strength upholds me,
Your compassion surrounds me,
and Your promises never fail.
Yahweh-Elohim—
Lord God,
the One who was,
and who is,
and who is to come.
My God,
O my God,
I call upon Your holy Name,
and I find You near.
For You alone
are worthy of all praise,
now and forever.
Amen.
