God’s Whispers

White noise here, there and everywhere! We are always surrounded by sound – the outside noise of motor vehicles (I live near an autoroute and main road) to the inside background sound of the television my husband has turned up (he has bad hearing). When I sit outside, I hear my neighbour’s talking or mowing the lawn. Sometimes I hear a tweet of a bird.

Noise! I realized this last week while I was listening to my music is everywhere. My music was blaring to drown out the background music at the gym.

The crazy thing is we often layer the annoying noise around us with other sounds more favourable to our own musical interest. I notice my own kids watching shows, movies, or listening to music on their mobiles. Their earbuds on high to drown out the noise around them. So on the one hand there is background noise, and on the other my kids have own own music or sounds to drown out noise – which makes talking to them a strain on my vocal cords!

Wow, so when do I have that silent moment to hear God’s whisper. I don’t, I have started to tune out white noise and not layer it so that I can hear him. This is often early in the morning and later in the evening when there is a wonderful silence with just me and God. Yes, I had to work my schedule around all the noise around me, because I want to sit with God quietly.

In the past I would share this quiet time (5:30 – 7:00am) time with caring for my sick dog Candy. It was a time for me to take care of her during her last days with us (she was afflicted with muscle paralysis), and then spend the rest of my morning in quiet time with God. Since Candy has passed away, I maintained this early morning schedule as my time to pray the rosary and orient my day God’s ward.

It is in the silence of our prayers that sometimes there are images, flowing thoughts, as well as the peace of God which embraces us. I call these God’s whispers. Once our day is directed towards God, we can feel the plenty of his boundless graces in our lives, as well as his presence. Even reading scripture bring new insights in our own lives.

I often hear people say they don’t have time for prayer or Jesus. How does one find time? Well, time doesn’t magically appear. It demands action and commitment on our part to invite Jesus in. It takes action on our part to know Jesus more, love him more, and to follow our beloved Christ more closely. It also includes the decision to keep Jesus at the centre of our lives. The rest of the work is done by the Holy Spirit.

God Bless each of you in you walk with Jesus 💕🙏
