I must admit that reading Paul’s writing in the Gospel always scares the crap out of me. He doesn’t candy coat anything and basically tells it as it is.
There is also much in Paul’s writing that I hold dear. These are verses I have memorized and they have helped me through challenging times.
Amidst all the love, kindness and mercy of God, there is also the side not much discussed. We forget that our God is just and demands much from us in return. He gives us the choice to choose him or the world. Like a good parent, God also wants us to take responsibility for our sins and to grow spiritually. Growing spiritually and knowing God is through reading the Bible, praying on it and asking for his assistance and guidance. It’s only when we know him that we can make changes in our own lives.
Just last week I was complaining to my spiritual director that I can’t stand Paul’s nagging. I just didn’t want to hear.
After a week of inwardly meditation – and letting go of my own prejudice and stubbornness – I accept Paul’s straight talk.
There is much pruning to be done.
Aside:
My God is good and loving, but like a parent, although I love of my children, there are times when I need to be firm, and stern if they have done wrong. Just as I want what’s best for m children, God wants what’s best for me.
I spend most of the morning trimming my Lilacs bush, cutting away dead branches so that new shoots can sprout and grow. In much the same way, I am continuously being pruned and guided by the hand of God.
I share with my readers Paul Martins (Renewal Ministry). Consequences, The Choices We Face:
God Bless 🙏💕
