Gospel Mt 16:13-20
Jesus went into the region of Caesarea Philippi and
he asked his disciples,
“Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”
They replied, “Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah,
still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
Simon Peter said in reply,
“You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
Jesus said to him in reply,
“Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah.
For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father.
And so I say to you, you are Peter,
and upon this rock I will build my church,
and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.
I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven.
Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven;
and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
Then he strictly ordered his disciples
to tell no one that he was the Christ.
I have read this passage many times, and I really thank our Blessed God for the way he reveals to me little at a time, and when I most need it.
If he reveals all at once, I probably won’t understand since often what’s reveal is also based on what I am going through.
Todays reading touched me with the amazing grace of God. His trust and love for each of us is revealed to me in his trust in Peter. Peter who denied Jesus 3 times, yet fearlessly walked on water towards Jesus (and the moment his eyes are off Jesus he falters). When Jesus asks him, “Follow Me,” he is the first to follow Jesus.
The beauty of this passage lifts from me all the thorns that have been holding me down and making me feel unworthy. Today’s Gospel reading touched at the core of my soul, for it open my heart to the love of Jesus – the broken me is in his eyes – precious
I give thanks to the Holy Spirit for touching my heart today, letting me know that Jesus loves me with my brokenness and all – that yes, there are days I falter (big time!) and it doesn’t mean he loves me less. When I fall, he lifts me up. In fact, it’s only through my brokenness that he can heal and guide me to be the person I am meant to be – a child of God.
Praise be to God 💕🙏
We will fall and go through times of feeling unworthy because of our shortcomings, sins, and broken humanity, but know that Jesus is always there in our darkest moments. We don’t see him. I offer this post to all those who are going through a rough patch. Know that you are loved. Praying for all my readers.
God Bless 🙏💕
