Reflections on faith, hope, and the quiet journey with Christ

There comes a moment in every mother’s life when she realizes her child no longer needs her hands to hold — and the ache of that realization is matched only by the love that caused it.

Wherever They Go is my new song, releasing December 31, 2026. And I want to be honest about what it is: it is not a song about a little child leaving home. I wrote it as the mother of an adult son, whose world was becoming bigger than the world I could physically accompany him through.

There are roads I cannot walk with him. There are choices his to make, questions I cannot answer, journeys his to take. And so this song became a prayer of letting go — not of love, but of the need to walk every road beside him. When my hands can no longer reach, I trust that God’s still can.

If you are a parent of grown children, you know this prayer. You have prayed it in the quiet of the night, standing in a doorway, watching taillights disappear down the road. Keep Your hand upon them gently — and remind them they are never alone.

Here are the lyrics, offered as a prayer for every parent learning to let go:

Verse 1

Lord, wherever they walk today, go before them on the way.
Through the sunlight, through the shadows, be their light when skies turn gray.
Guard their body, mind, and spirit; give them wisdom, give them grace.
When the road leads far beyond us, let them know Your dwelling place.

Chorus

Surround them with Your holy angels, watch them closely night and day.
Let all that is good and true and beautiful draw their hearts still closer, Lord, I pray.
Wherever life may lead them, wherever they may roam,
keep Your hand upon them gently — and remind them they are never alone.

Verse 2

There are roads we cannot walk with them, there are choices theirs to make.
There are questions we can’t answer, there are journeys theirs to take.
So we place them in Your keeping, where our hands can no longer reach.
Be the whisper in the silence, be the truth we cannot teach.

Bridge

And if they wander far from home, if the path grows dim and long,
if Your voice seems lost in silence and they cannot find the song —
keep Your hand upon them gently; walk beside them through the night.
Through the searching, through the questions, never let them lose Your light.

Till the day they turn and recognize the One who never left their side,
let Your mercy be the road beneath them, let Your love remain their guide.

Final Chorus

Surround them with Your holy angels, watch them closely night and day.
Let all that is good and true and beautiful draw their hearts still closer, Lord, I pray.

Wherever life may lead them, wherever they may roam,
keep Your hand upon them gently — until their hearts remember home.

Outro

Keep Your hand upon them… Keep Your hand upon them…
When we cannot walk beside them, You are with them all the same.

Keep Your hand upon them… until they recognize Your voice again.

Amen.

Wherever They Go releases December 31, 2026, on all streaming platforms. Until then, may this prayer hold every child you love — wherever they may roam.
