Grace Was Always There — A Song About Noticing

There’s a song of mine that began on a very ordinary day — the kind where grace shows up without announcing itself.

I had come off the phone with my mom, feeling heavy with sadness. Some sorrows you can name, and some just sit quietly on your chest. The next day I was at work, out with the daycare children, when we needed to cross a busy street. A stranger saw us — just a hand, a smile, a steady presence — and helped us across.

It was such a small thing. And yet it warmed my heart in a way I can’t fully explain. It felt like a silent boost from God, arriving exactly where I needed it: in the middle of an ordinary day, through an ordinary kindness.

That is where “Grace Was Always There” comes from — the quiet conviction that goodness is moving all around us, even when sorrow is loud.

“Maybe grace was always there, waiting not to be explained — only noticed, only welcomed, in the ordinary day.”

Not every sorrow needs an answer. Not every wound will disappear. But grace does not deny the darkness. Sometimes it is simply waiting beneath the noise of everything, until the Spirit wakes the heart and whispers: look. See. Notice Me.

The song is out now — and it will also be part of my upcoming album Words Woven Through Creation, arriving January 1, 2027, the companion album to the book of the same name (publishing December 17, 2026).
