A Stronger Me In My Own Existence

Ephesians 5:16

16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.

Ephesians 5:16 (often paired with 5:15) urges us to “make the most of every opportunity” or “redeem the time” because “the days are evil.”

The awareness of time slipping away while caught up in activities like binge-watching dramas that, while enjoyable, might not align with my deeper spiritual goals or Catholic values.

The verse is a call for me and those like me to intentionality—being mindful of how we spend our time in a world full of distractions and moral challenges. It’s not about guilt-tripping ourselves for relaxing but about evaluating whether our time reflects our priorities. I have been binge watching Chinese dramas with minimal housework and cooking. I am aware of a disconnect between how I am spending my time and what I might feel called to do.

After some reflection, let’s digest this verse practically:

  1. Reflect on Purpose: Ephesians 5:15-16 comes from a passage about living wisely and walking in God’s will. Ask myself: What’s one thing I feel God might be nudging you toward that I’ve been putting off? It could be spiritual (prayer, reading Scripture), relational (connecting with someone), or personal (a project or goal).
  2. Balance, Not Shame: The verse isn’t about never resting or enjoying entertainment. Relaxation is necessary, but the challenge is balance. Maybe set a limit for drama-watching (e.g., one episode) and carve out time for something purposeful, like journaling, learning, or serving others.
  3. Redeem the Time: “Redeeming” implies buying back something lost. If I feel like time’s been wasted, I can start fresh. (Like taking the time to reflect and share my insights with my readers)
  4. Small Steps: I don’t need to overhaul my day. I can try adding one intentional act—like 10 minutes of prayer or reading a chapter of a meaningful book—before diving into entertainment. It’s about making time work for me, not against me.

Hope this little reflection helps in growing in Jesus – isn’t it a beautiful thing?

God Bless 🙏💕
